This standard specifies a bending resonance method for evaluating the damping properties of acoustic materials. It is aligned with internationally recognized methodologies to ensure comparability and reliability of results across laboratories. GB/T 16406-1996 references ISO 6721-3:1994, Plastics—Determination of dynamic mechanical properties—Part 3: Flexural vibration—Resonance-curve method, and ASTM E756-83, Standard Test Method for Measuring Vibration-Damping Properties of Materials. By adopting the principles of these documents, the standard guides users in determining damping characteristics through measurement of flexural vibrational behavior near resonance. In practice, the method involves exciting a specimen in flexural vibration, identifying the resonance frequency, and analyzing the resonance curve to extract damping metrics (such as loss factor) that characterize energy dissipation within the material. The approach is suitable for comparative assessments, material development, and quality control where consistent, standardized damping data are required.
